Critic's Corner

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Super fans of the two DC Comic legends have been waiting for this super movie. This follow-up to Man of Steel, tells of Batman's new vendetta against Superman, as the world faces a brand new threat. No doubt this movie will show the clash of these two titans - or as Jesse Eisenberg who plays the infamous Lex Luthor says in the film - the clash of "God versus Man."

I was excited to see this movie directed by Zack Snyder, and to be honest, it was very good, but it definitely could have been a lot better. The plot made sense. It was clear that it was being set up for a sequel, but not so obvious that it was really the whole purpose for the franchise.

While Zack Snyder did a good job of setting down the plot and giving us a pinch of a sequel starter, this movie felt like two different films combined. The first part focused on mainly the political and social aspect of how people deemed Superman and why Superman struggles with being human.

The climax and finale, on the other hand, were action-packed and full of the movie's best and biggest fight scenes. Overall, the movie had a good plot, and while it sometimes felt forced, it was all right.

This brings me to the acting and actors. For this movie, Ben Affleck as Batman was perfect. Maybe not the best onscreen Batman, but certainly one of the more memorable and great ones. Henry Cavill didn't really bring anything new to his portrayal of Superman, which could have been a little more lively and less grim looking. He was still good though. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons who played Alfred, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane all did great. Lastly, Jesse Eisenberg was okay as Lex Luthor, but he did play him a little more insane and flamboyant than I thought he should be.

Other than that he was good.

For my last point on this movie, I am going to bring up certain things in general. What I feel mostly is that even though I am a Batman comic book lover, I am also a film critic and lover. So as a superhero movie this was one of the great ones that deserves to be recognized and watched again. As a comic book film aside, it could have been better. In the last half of the movie it forced all of the big action sequences. So, in my opinion, this movie was like a dirty gem - beautiful and fantastic, but really in need of a lot of polishing. In conclusion, I give this film an 84%, an overall B, and 3 out of five stars.

Based on my review and these scores, I encourage you to see this film even if your aren't into superheroes. It was definitely enjoyable and okay as a movie. Its only problems were little details that could have made it better. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was good and I recommend it to you.
